Town of Stouffville Rolls Out Innovative Outdoor Battery Recycling Solution

Stouffville, Ontario – Environmental 360 Solutions Ltd placed its new state-of-the-art outdoor battery recycling container outside the Stouffville Town Hall at 111 Sandiford Drive.

“The Town is excited to partner with Environmental 360 Solutions by placing this new outdoor battery collection container at our Municipal Offices. This provides residents with a convenient way to recycle their household batteries safely and responsibly,” said Jack Graziosi, Commissioner of Engineering and Public Works for the Town of Stouffville.

Outdoor battery recycling containers give people access to battery recycling 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The new recycling containers are equipped with SMART sensors to monitor material volumes as well as the internal temperature of the container. In the event of thermal activity, the containers are equipped with a fire suppression system. 

“Lithium-ion battery fires are becoming more and more prevalent and proper storage and disposal is crucial when it comes to preventing lithium-ion battery fires,” said Jeff Bignell, Fire Prevention Officer for the Town of Stouffville. 

Environmental 360 Solutions Ltd acquired the assets of Raw Materials Company of Port Colborne, Ontario, including its state-of-the-art processing technology for single-use batteries. Along with the advanced technology, the acquisition included the company's massive collection network spanning coast to coast across Canada. 

The design of the E360S SMART outdoor battery recycling container was the product of two years of testing and development, drawing on 20-plus years of battery recycling experience.

"Our new outdoor battery recycling containers were built to last, even in the most challenging weather conditions. They're fitted with advanced sensors, including one that measures the volume of batteries inside at any given time. Once the container is full, it sends us a signal that it's time for a pickup," said Andrew Horsman, VP of Sustainability at Environmental 360 Solutions.
