The City of Richmond Hill to Place New Smart Battery Collection Containers with Enhanced Safety Features at Public Facilities

Richmond Hill, ON – Environmental 360 Solutions Ltd. (E360S), a leader in sustainable waste management solutions, is excited to announce the rollout of enhanced battery recycling containers which include an integrated fire-suppression material. The state-of-the-art containers will replace four of the most popular battery collection bins within the City of Richmond Hill, which has a network of 14 battery recycling locations.
The move is part of a broader effort to enhance the safety and accessibility of battery recycling. The new recycling bins can be found at the following locations:
· Central Library - 1 Atkinson St
· Oak Ridges Library - 34 Regatta Ave
· Bayview Hill Community Centre and Pool - 114 Spadina Rd
· Elgin West Community Centre and Pool - 11099 Bathurst St
As the use of battery-powered devices continues to grow, improper disposal of batteries, especially lithium-ion batteries, presents serious safety risks. If not handled properly, these batteries can leak toxic chemicals or catch fire. To mitigate these risks, municipalities are working with Environmental 360 Solutions to ensure battery recycling is accessible in every community.
“Access to safe, convenient battery recycling sites plays a critical role in reducing the risks associated with improper battery disposal,” said Andrew Horsman, VP of Sustainability at Environmental 360 Solutions. “Inaccessible or difficult-to-find recycling options can discourage people from recycling, leading to hording or improper disposal in trash bins. When these batteries end up in a landfill, they pose serious environmental and safety risks.”
Environmental 360 Solutions' new indoor battery recycling container is the latest innovation in a line of SMART recycling containers designed to make battery recycling safe and accessible in a modern, tech-driven world.
As part of its ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and public safety, E360S is strategically rolling out its enhanced battery recycling containers across Ontario, focusing on locations where participation is highest. The company is committed to a phased approach and plans to have a significant presence by the end of 2025.
